What’s up sports fans? Well it happened. This is a hard place to be in mentally. If your wondering why it’s because last month I wrote in my blog that the San Jose Sharks would win Lord Stanley’s Cup. Now I have to eat crow, because just two days ago San Jose fell to the Vancouver Canucks 4 games to 1. One thing for sure the Sharks deserve a huge round of applause. They held on during the regular season threw countless injuries and still was able to capture the Pacific Western Division title. They also stood their ground, or I should say Ice, tough and advance all the way to the Western Conference Finals. We here in the Bay Area should be proud of our guys in Teal.
They represented our region of the hockey world in style. So to head coach Todd McLellan, Joe Thorton, Patrick Marleau, Dany Heatly, Ryan Clowe, Logan Couture, Joe Pavelski, Devin Setoguchi, Antii Niemi, Kyle Wellwood, Danny Boyle, Ben Eager, Torrey Mitchell, and the rest of the men in Teal. I know that the rest of the San Jose faithful is with me when I say thank you for a great season and for giving us something to look forward to in the 2011-2012 season. We watched the ups and the downs of this year but all in all I have to give credit to the Vancouver Canucks. Thanks to them I have to shut my mouth until next year and remember to be quite until the Stanley Cup is won. This is hard for me.
I’m sure it’s even harder for those of us who have been Shark fans from the beginning. I have to admit I haven’t always been a Sharks fan. Actually I haven’t been a hockey fan at all. This year the way the Sharks played made me a fan. This is why I know most of the sports writers will want to write the haunting memories of playoff Sharks losses. They’ll write things like, “This has been the worst playoff loss in Sharks history.”, or “Sharks taste disappointing defeat at the hands of Vancouver.” I learned from this years Western Conference Finals that it doesn’t matter what anyone writes. See I, like most writers aren’t on the Ice. I don’t know what it feels like to stop a hockey puck at 120 mph., or whatever speed it’s coming at me.
No I don’t know what it’s like the checked against the boards. This series taught me that if you want to write something degrading about the way these guys played this season, then get on the Ice and see if you can stop Logan Couture on a power play. Try to look at a designed play from head coach Todd McLellan and succeed against some of the best defensemen in the Pacific Western Division. Stop Joe Thorton from scoring on you. I’d like to see just one of the hockey sports writers try to be Antii Niemi for just 3 minutes. Doesn’t sound easy does it? Your right it’s not. It took great stamina and resilency for the Sharks to win the division title let alone get the Western Conference Finals.
They didn’t bring home the Cup this time, but the future is as bright as that light blue teal on their jerseys. I say Hat Tricks off the 2010-2011 San Jose Sharks, they made us proud to be a San Jose Shark! What do you think? Give me your side of this story.
